Mirfield Rotary has become the first Club in Yorkshire to be accredited as a ‘Dementia Friendly’ Club. The accreditation was awarded by the Mayor of Kirklees.
Mirfield Rotary Club continues its work as a Dementia Friendly Club.
In October we invited two speakers to our Club meetings. We were honoured by the presence of the Mayor of Kirklees Cllr. Christine Iredale along with her colleague from Huddersfield
University. The Mayor’s civic charities this year are Dementia UK and Alzheimers Society. We were able to make a donation and all monies raised by the charities are ring fenced for Kirklees. On the second occasion we were pleased to welcome the Admiral Nurse Professional and Practice Development Facilitator (North East) from Dementia UK -
Suzanne Wightman. Suzanne brought along with her an Ambassador for Dementia UK who gave a moving and powerful personal testimony as to how Admiral Nurses had helped and continue to help her family. On both occasions we were pleased to able to facilitate networking between other organisations which will further the work on dementia related issues and to contribute to much needed funds.
Future activities will include taking carers from our local Happy Memories Group to the Christmas celebrations of a similar club organised by a fellow Rotarian in our Club but in Lancashire!
