PRIOR to the Covid Pandemic in 2020 Cowdenbeath Rotary Club used to be regular competitors in the District 1010 Gavel competition, but since then the club has not played a match.
Interest in the event, which sees teams of eight play games such as dominoes, Jenga, Connect 4 and putting, has started to pick-up and at Thursday's meeting a Cowdenbeath team took on West Fife Rotary Club in a challenge match and it saw some keenly contested 'rubbers' and skilful play.
The match was very close and the Cowden group managed to sneak a narrow win by a couple of points.
Club president, Craig Bennet, thanked West Fife for helping regenerate the activity at the local club and hopes that it could see Cowdenbeath consider going back into competing in the District competition.
He said after receiving the trophy up for grabs on the night: “We would like to warmly thank West Fife for providing the opposition as we tried to rejuvenate our Gavel enthusiasm, and it was a very enjoyable experience.
“We have developed a very strong association with West Fife during 2025, and they played a big part in helping make our Duck Race at the Meadows the success it was with three defibrillators coming to the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly the result.
“We hope it may bring about a return to the district scene, but at the very least we will contest the trophy with West Fife annually.”
