We welcome Sophy, Community Fundraiser who will tell us about the vital services that Marie Curie provides - from specialist nurses and hospices to their Support Line and Volunteer Programmes.

Sophy will tell us why Marie Curie matters more than ever today:The UK's leading charity for people living with a terminal illness provides:
  • hospice care
  • planning future care
  • palliative care
  • patient and relative telephone or online support
  • advice for carers and health professionals
  • benefits advice

  • companion services and
  • bereavement support services

Marie Curie's outstanding services are available throughout the UK. Explore Marie Curie's rich history:

Marie Curie, a trained chemist and physicist from Poland carried out pioneering research into radioactivity discovering polonium and radium in 1898.

In 1903, Marie was awarded the Nobel Prize alongside her husband, Pierre Curie in physics where they went on to found the Curie Institutes in Paris and Warsaw.

With a successful scientific career behind both Marie and Pierre, Marie was instrumental in work with hospitals initially treating female cancer patients using radiology.
