Medical Detection Dogs (MDD) train dogs to detect minute odor changes in human diseases.
MDDs are at the cutting edge of research in the fight against Cancers such as prostate, Neurological Diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease, and bacterial infections such as Malaria.
Bio Detection Dogs with their fantastic sense of smell are trained to find the odor of human diseases in samples such as urine, breath, and sweat, and their work has the potential to benefit millions.
MMD research has shown dogs can be trained to detect odors and identify the individual 'signature' associated with the disease.
Medical Detection Dogs are now working on NHS-approved clinical trials. It is hoped that future research will bring about a less invasive diagnostic method to detect diseases such as cancer at an earlier stage.
Medical Alert Assistance Dogs are trained to support individuals living with complex health conditions who have limited awareness of their impending life-threatening medical events.
The dog's ability to establish an individual’s personal odor immediately before the emergency can enable the person to call 999 in conditions such as Type 1 diabetes.
The Dogs' assistance can therefore reduce hospital admissions giving people greater confidence and independence, and enabling a person to lead a fuller and happier life.
