History of our Club. 10th Anniversary

Rotary in Carshalton: 1936 - 2026

Carshalton RC celebrated it's 10th Anniversary on the 17th July 2025.

Rotary has been in Carshalton since 1936, originally set up for lunchtime meetings. A second Club named the Beeches Club was founded in 1977 catering for those commuting and wishing to meet in the evening. 

The true historical dates are: 

Carshalton Inaugural Luncheon: 21^st May 1935 and Charter Granted on the 20^th January 1936.

Carshalton Beeches Inaugural Meeting: 14^th September 1978, its Charter Granted December 1978 and Charter Evening recorded as the 19^th January 1979.

Both Clubs thrived, each having their own diverse but complementary range of community activities. Modernisation came for all Rotary clubs in the 1980's with women being admitted into the organisation. 

For a number of reasons, the two Carshalton Clubs merged in 2015, pooling resources and thereby continuing to increase its charitable impact.

From 2015 onwards and after a period of readjustment, the newly merged Carshalton Park's membership began to increase.  The wake-up call for many Clubs including ours happened on our re-emergence from covid-19.

Carshalton Park RC began with a new meeting format, venue and much work behind the scenes with newer members taking the lead on publicity as the world opened up again.

This winning formula has contributed to increasing our Club's membership by over 50% in 5 years and as a result, Carshalton Park is now one of the South of England's most successful modern day Rotary Clubs.

Today, younger residents, workers and corporate members from diverse backgrounds join bringing their skills, interests and fresh ideas.

Rotary has now enjoyed over 90 years in Carshalton and has a bright future serving its community.
