Highways Network
Background talk about Transport
Neil Stewart is the Highways Network Manager for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. This strategic authority has powers over transport, economic development and regeneration. They do not run bus services, set fares run train services or own train services. They do provide transport services such as passengers information, financial support for tendered services, schools transport and a concessionary fares scheme.
Key transport funding comes from growth deal funding, local transport plan funding, a transport levy and local enterprise partnership funding: a total income of nearly £400m.
Neil ended his talk looking towards the future within the Leeds City Region and in Yorkshire and the Humber. Regarding Leeds, he spoke about smart ticketing via mobile phones; the possibility of bus franchising and clean air zones in Leeds and Bradford
