Robotic cats - dementia talk
Sheila Wainwright President of the Wakefield Rotary Club, spoke about her first hand experience around dementia and the help that can be provided through robotic cats and admiralty nurses.
After Sheila saw her husband suffer from dementia she resolved to help other sufferers. She has worked with the Rotary to raise enough funds to pay for two nurses in Wakefield.
As her late husband had been calm when stroking their cat, Sheila was amazed to hear about the existence of "robotic" cats when she attended a meeting in Huddersfield and met a lady who had one of these cats "sitting"on a table! These were ideal for people with dementia and suffering from social isolation and through the use of batteries (four in each cat) they could move, purr and open and close their eyes! Sheila helped Rotarians in various clubs to purchase cats each costing up to circa £100.
They are widely used in North America.
