Visit to Drax Power Station
22 Rotarians visited Drax Power station near Selby. The visit was instigated by Dr Arnie Read (past President) who has been in the Power Industry all his working life. The tour of the factory started in the education centre and the guides explained the whole process of producing electricity mostly now from Bio Fuels i.e. spare wood made into pellets from Canada.
The amount required to power the turbines to produce electricity is phenomenal using several train loads a day.
The Power station produces about 8% of the UK's supply.
Drax are working hard to recycle or reuse most of products produced.
