Donation to Aware
We gave £2000 to AWARE (Airedale & Wharfedale Autism Resource) towards their wonderful work with children mostly between 2 & 25 ish. Rachel Miller and Nikki Pickles gave a very passionate talk about the groups work from its base in Addingham.
They run; a play scheme for 4 to 9 years old, A Cooking Club for 12 to 18 year olds to help develop independence life skills, Educate employers to understand Autism, Trip Club for Teenagers to help visit places, improve social skills & make Friends. 2 to 11 Junior Youth Club with sensory activities & an activity club making models etc. Key areas are communication, behaviour, understanding & parents gaining friendships with other parents.
Many significant changes can take place as children grow up with Autism. It is a developmental disability where they can't put themselves into other shoes easily. One in 66 people are affected by Autism and about 300 families in the Airedale & Wharfedale area are connected to Aware.
