What Ilkley Rotary Club is all about
Ilkley Rotary Club was formed in 1937. Today, the club has 25 members dedicated to helping their community. Although under current lockdown restrictions, we now conduct our weekly meetings using Zoom, so we are still able to meet virtually and invite guest speakers to talk about different projects.
A good turnout each week demonstrates that whilst most of us may be described as "mature", a good uptake of this technology is evident and we are able to attract speakers from a much wider circle and is certainly one small benefit.
Over the years members have served the Ilkley community holding fundraisers and events to support local projects and causes. Some of the projects (click on the blue link) which have benefited from the support of Ilkley Rotary club are:
Nell Bank Centre - Nell Bank provides day and residential experiences for schools and community groups across the full age and ability range. Donations help the Nell Bank Centre to build new equipment and continue evolving.
Hope and Homes for Children - Hope and Homes for Children is a global expert in the field of deinstitutionalisation. By closing institutions, supporting children into loving, stable families and working with governments to tackle the root causes of family breakdowns.
AWARE - AWARE is a parent-run group supporting families with children and young adults on the autistic spectrum. AWARE can support families through the maze of local services which cross health, social care and education boundaries.
Ilkley Band Stand - The Bandstand is located in the centre of Ilkley. It is on the southern side of The Grove which is a picturesque tree lined street of elegant shops and is directly opposite Betty's famous tearooms. The Bandstand is surrounded by well-kept gardens with permanent seating for those wishing to enjoy the performance.
