Tameside Rotary Welcomes Three New Members - Why Don't You Join Them

Leanne, Hocine & Aneep tell their story why they joined Rotary. Their early journey with Tameside Rotary. Would you like to join them if so complete enquiry form.

Hocine

Let us introduce you to one of our newest members

Hocine formally joined our Rotary family in September 2025 and has made a huge impression on his fellow Tameside Rotarians with his enthusiasm, energy and passion for people and service to others.

Of Algerian descent and after studying Applied Chemistry in the UK, Hocine’s professional career, began as an Industrial Chemist, but a move into the business side, took him around the world. He has lived in Germany, Zurich, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, India, Poland and Holland! He has also travelled to more than 100 countries. Little wonder that Hocine can speak five languages!

Not one to sit still for long, following a return to the UK in 2021 and ‘retirement’ a couple of years later, Hocine set up a consultancy company focusing on adhesives to keep him active and busy.

An avid gardener, Hocine is married to Valerie and has 6 children, 24 grandchildren including 4 great grandchildren!

As a true globe-trotter, Hocine is well placed to get involved in one of Rotary’s International Projects in the future! However, back at base, Hocine assisted at our charity beer festival, helped organise our community cash awards scheme, is involved in Lend with Care and is busily project planning our Santa Float collection for 2026. Will you see him navigating one of our Christmas floats – we think he will be in his element!

Aneep

Aneep, joined our Rotary family in July 2025 having informally attended a few of our local Rotary meetings beforehand. Aneep said he wanted to join Rotary because it was important to him to continue serving the local community. It’s about “putting something back” he said, “keeping active and doing something different but beneficial for the community.”

Aneep’s professional background began with a career in the motor vehicle industry and he then moved into the field of IT teaching and then into Estates and Facilities management before retirement beckoned.

Aneep served in the Territorial Army for almost 32 years and has actively collaborated with the Armed Forces community and military veterans’ organisations having been involved in helping to promote and organise events that celebrate the service of military personnel. He is married to Kala who is the founder of the Tameside Meals SEVA Group, a volunteer-led charity based in Hyde that provides hot, nutritious meals to vulnerable residents across the Tameside borough. They have two girls and one granddaughter.

Since becoming a Rotarian, Aneep has been involved in our charity Tameside Beer Festival and is about to work alongside another new member, Hocine, to join the operational team for our 2026 Santa Float collection. We think his expertise in mechanics and operations will most definitely be an advantage when dealing with a sometimes temperamental mechanical reindeer float and our mischievous elves!!

Leanne

At Tameside Rotary we know how to ‘dress to impress’ when the occasion calls, but recently our reputation has been enhanced by a new member who is a former holder of the titles Miss Tameside, Miss Greater Manchester and up to recently Ms Endeavour GB (preceded by Ms Endeavour UK). (Endeavour UK is a non-profit inclusive national UK based pageant system which encourages winners to use their platform to raise issues and help raise funds to support young adults most at risk of homelessness alongside other charitable causes of their choosing).

On relinquishing the Ms Endeavour title, Leanne viewed joining Rotary as the next chapter in continuing her role in community service saying: “As a Tameside girl at heart, I feel truly honoured to join an organisation which shares my passion for community service and is making a difference to those it serves. It’s about taking action and having an impact.”

In her professional life and with a range of skills honed through involvement in the Pageantry system, Leanne is a civil servant who works to support people into employment. A demanding role which Leanne balances with caring for her 10 year old daughter – who we might add has attended Tameside Rotary meetings and helped run the monthly raffle! Leanne also volunteers as a wedding planner (drawing on her background and expertise in event and wedding planning) for ‘Gift of a Wedding’ (a UK charity that plans and funds weddings for people with terminal or life-limiting illnesses) - a role she finds terribly rewarding.

Drawing on her experiences, Leanne considers that early intervention is crucial to help young people to get on the right path and develop the skills needed to flourish in society and in the paid work environment. She is interested in learning about Rotary Youth programmes and Competitions ie Youth Programs | Rotary International and Youth Competitions – Our Projects – Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland Tameside Rotary has previously supported the annual ‘Rotary Youth Speaks’ competition. The opportunities within Rotary for Leanne to pursue this avenue as part of her Rotary journey are plentiful and we look forward to supporting her in this ‘endeavour’.
