Thank you to Nadia Tkachuk (who came to our October meeting) for arranging and organising such an enjoyable Ukrainian fashion show. Rotary District 1285 NW England and IOM provided money for Ukrainian refugees. The idea of providing Ukrainian blouses was inspired because in a conversation with one of the ladies (who was the first one to win one of the nine blouses!) about what her most sentimental possession was from her past, she said she didn't have anything, admitting she lost almost everything in Mariupol. The embroidery is powerful, symbolic as a link to the past and identity which is used in all ceremonies and churches. Also, the purchase of these blouses helps the Ukrainian economy. The blouses were purchased with rotary district money through Tameside Rotary and the fashion show was arranged by Nadia. On the day, an unexpected £370.00 was raised through the raffle, purchasing craft items and personal donations for Ukraine.
Also attending was Past District Governor Mike Wilson and his wife Joan and Petro Rewko MBE who is chair of all the Ukrainian associations in GB.
