Jack Millin RIP
It is with great sadness that we learn of the death, at the age of 102, of Jack Millin an honorary member of this club.
Jack had been a Rotarian for over 60 years - first as a member of Ashton and then transferred to Tameside Rotary.
He was one of the few remaining veterans of a generation who fought with extraordinary courage to defend our freedom during the Second World War. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service, both during wartime and throughout a lifetime dedicated to his community.
In 1944 and 1945, Jack, then just 20 years old, joined the RAF and saw active service with the allied South African Air Force as a Wireless Operator and Air Gunner. He flew in American B26 Marauder bombers on missions over northern Italy, helping to defeat the German forces.
Rotary was important to Jack as it was one way, but he had many others, particularly scouting, where he could serve the local and wider community.
Service Above Self is Rotary's motto and we could not have any finer example of you living up to these three words.
