Ebola

This was a real chance for Rotaract students and friends to socialise with local Rotarians from St Andrews.

Ebola is the greatest threat to world health since Aids and we were fortunate to hear first hand from Ezekiel who knows how the disease is affecting all aspects of his country, Sierra Leone.  Many quarintined people are dying of hunger or minor diseases because they must stay in their homes and cannot bring in the harvest.  Some of the top well qualified doctors in the country are now dead -- a huge loss of expert knowledge for future medical care in the country.  The aftermath of the disease will affect the economy of the country in many ways.

John Black showed some pictures taken by his son which confirmed much of what Ezekiel explained to us.

John's son has volunteered to be a trial patient in the new vaccines being explored to counter the virus.

Although enjoying wine & cheese the serious message of the evening was that we should listen to Ezekiel and John and do what we can to help the plight of these desperate people in Sierra Leone.

Assistant Governor, Malcolm Horner, handed over a Prsidential Citation from Rotary International to the Rotaract Club for completing many different tasks last year.
