The 104th Rotary Charter dinner of the City of Liverpool Rotary Club took place on 16 June 2017. We had a Chinese theme to celebrate Chinese culture, music and food. The evening started with an excellent performance of Chinese music on traditional Chinese musical instruments by the Pagoda Arts Centre. We enjoyed a delicious Chinese banquet prepared by the Adelphi Hotel.
After dinner, I spoke about the club's achievements, its history and members. I surprised everyone by announcing the award of three Paul Harris Fellowships to Rotarians Sue Clements, Bill Connolly and Colin Kershaw. A fantastic lion dance and martial arts display followed, thanks to the Liverpool Hung Gar Kung Fu Association. The evening carried on until midnight with guests dancing to the All or Nothing band. The Charter Night was a wonderful way of ending my year as president. I wish Jon Atkinson, the new president, every success in his year.
