The 'Thumbnail' homepage display

(if your website displays a carousel you may wish to skip this section)
The old thumbnails were displayed side by side. Why has this changed?
Now that they are below each other, the thumbnail images display better on devices with narrower screen widths where people are more accustomed to scrolling vertically.
I want to change the display to a carousel. What do I need to do?
To create the homepage carousel, go to the admin area, homepage options and select 'carousel' as your homepage style.
