Youth Service

Why is Rotary involved with young people? Well, for the same reason it is involved with the less fortunate in the world  to make a difference. Rotary competitions and other projects - over 20 in total - provide challenges for young people. To be chosen to represent their school in an outside competition is an achievement in itself, which boosts self-esteem, develop skills and is rewarding and character building.  Being successful gives acclamation, press coverage and possibly that extra certificate that subsequently helps so much at that important interview.

In addition, Rotary offers schools Interact and Rotakids to enable young people to learn the importance and enjoyment from working in a team in community service activities helping local and overseas less fortunate people.  No country, business or organisation can survive without investment.   Rotary is no different.   If the seeds of 'service above self' (Rotary's motto) can be sown at an early age; that helping fellow mankind is a worthy enterprise, then future potential Rotarians will be created and the future of Rotary will be secure and the world will be a better place.

Rotary in Lancashire and Cumbria offers a wide range of competitions, courses and the means to start your own 'Rotary' club within your school, which would be called an Interact Club. It enables young people to have a greater understanding of their communities and internationally, as well as having fun and creating new friends, often in other parts of the world.  Competitions in Design & Building, Public Speaking, Cooking, Writing, Photography and Music are held locally by Rotary clubs.  In most cases, a District Final and sometimes a National Final, is held.   Also we operate courses that are of the 'outward bound' type. Two are based in the Lake District and a third on a Tall Sailing ship. Stewards for the evening should be at the venue NO later than 6:30pm and should find a replacement to act for them if they are unable to attend. If a meeting is cancelled this list stays as it is - it does NOT move forward by a week.
