Late March 2025, Haddenham and District Rotarians, partners and guests visited this National Trust gem on a gloriously sunny day and enjoyed a guided tour of the house and spectacular gardens including a 'behind the scenes tour' of garden areas not routinely open for public view
We fully enjoyed the enthusiasm and depth of knowledge of our tour guide and Head of Gardens
The 'living sundial' is probably unique and it was explained how the central bush has been cleverly shaped to cast shadows that not only indicate the time of day, but also to show the correct time irrespective of the seasonal changing of clocks
We also learnt that Ascott boasts the best examples of some tree specimens in England
There are a variety of formal gardens for peaceful enjoyment and this artwork example which apparently is best enjoyed when sunrise illuminates the slates to create a 'picture of light and shade'
Transport is available
