Rotary Global Grant Scholarship Programme

Haddenham Rotary hosts graduates visiting Oxford to study abroad

Rotary Global Scholarship Programme

Rotary Foundation is Rotary's own charity and funds the Rotary Global Grant Scholarship Programme, one of the  world's largest privately funded international scholarship programs, awarding some $7 million in grants every year

This Global Scholarship Programme has supported over 800 undergraduate and post-graduate students and qualified professionals, from over 70 countries pursuing vocational studies

More Global Scholars come to study in the UK than in any other country, approximately 180 Scholars each year in the UK, with an average 30 Scholars hosted in the Thames Valley area

Study periods can be up to four years and while in the host country, scholars serve as Rotary goodwill ambassadors, fostering international understanding and friendly relations

Scholars are expected to give presentations about their study area and about their home country to local Rotary and other interested groups

Upon returning home, scholars are expected to share and apply the experiences that developed greater understanding of their host country

Haddenham and District Rotary has hosted many of the Scholars from around the world who choose to come and study in Oxford

Our Global Scholar for 2024 - 2025 Ethan Newnham (Australia)

Ethan will study at Brasenose College, Oxford, reading for a Masters Scholarship in the field of Neuroscience

While he was settling in and exploring, Ethan sent us this photo of him
standing in the Christchurch College dining hall

Very excited to visit where Harry Potter was filmed
but a bit disappointed there were no floating candles!

Haddenham Rotary are supporting the development of a promising young community and potential Rotary, leader, researching dementia and Parkinson's disease

Neurological decline and related neurological disorders are a major cause of death and loss of Qualitative Years of Life, particularly due to MS, Parkinson's and Dementia

This is an essential area of research to reduce both the personal and financial costs of dementia and neurological disorders, and the high prevalence of neurological disorders as a cause of death

Ethan's particular interest is to enhance understanding of how the brain learns and how the brain declines, and learn how to apply new techniques and skills to successful drug trials without the need to recruit humans

Haddenham and District Rotary are glad to be supporting this important research work and we look forward to more insights into his neuroscience interests when he visits us later this year
