Thank you to everyone who came along to our 'Multicultural Celebration' event at Brandon Community Hall. A wonderful afternoon which saw groups from Afghanistan, Ukraine, India, and the UK coming together for a social afternoon. Local piper Frank Bonner opened the event with the swirling sounds of the bagpipes and the entertainment of singing, dancing, and musical performances continued from all the nations represented. Thank you to Brandon and Byshottles Parish Council and Brandon Community Association Durham for supporting the event and to all the performers involved. With each group contributing food, the buffet certainly had an international flavour.
During the afternoon, in an adjacent hall, two of our Ukrainian guests who rely on the use a wheelchairs held an awareness session about some of the potential difficulties faced by wheelchair users on a day-to-day basis. This session was attended by people of all ages and allowed them to experience the negotiation of a very simple and short route through cones and over very low ramps and steps.
