Rotarians feel the pressure 

More than 40 shoppers in Dunfermline’s Kingsgate shopping centre had their blood pressure checked last weekend (Sat 2 Oct), thanks to a community initiative by the Carnegie Rotary Club.

The Rotarians set up a gazebo in the centre and invited shoppers to have their blood pressure checked by nurse Innes Robertson.

Club spokesperson David Robertson said the service did a brisk trade, with folk sitting patiently in line to have their check-up.

“We were delighted with the response, “David said. “People really seemed to appreciate the opportunity to have their blood pressure checked for free there and then, and to chat about it with Innes, without having to make an appointment with their GP. Many people might not get it checked at all unless it’s done while they’re seeing their GP about something else.

“High blood pressure can cause serious health events such as strokes. So if we’ve motivated even two or three folk to follow it up with their doctors and thereby prevent serious consequences developing, it was well worth doing.”
