Grace Morris and Isobel Clifford from St Andrews Kilrymont Club on Rotakids
Grace and Isobel told us all about their RotaKids project at Canongate Primary School in St Andrews. RotaKids is for children aged 8 to 12 and offers lots of educational benefits, such as opportunities for the children to learn about and display good citizenship, to contribute to the community and to gain in self-esteem.
The RotaKids team have a President, Secretary and Treasurer and organise projects. The school runs projects with help and support from a team of 3 Rotarians. Each Rotakid makes the pledge:
"I promise:
To be fair to all
To serve my community
To show respect for others"
This was very popular with the children, so much so that one little boy who was ill on the day made the pledge over the phone!
Their projects include contributing to National Spring Clean Week by doing a litter pick in the Botanical Gardens. Next they helped with a conservation project to replant Blue Fleabane. For their international project, they raised funds to buy Life Straws
