"My Job" talk by Julie
September 27th
Julie introduced herself by showing us her Twitter page!.We quickly discovered that she likes cooking, handbags, MasterChef and Strictly! In her business her key words are tasty, success and the environment. Julie was born in Northern Ireland but has lived in Scotland since she studied Media at Stirling University. She has a husband and two young children.
Julie was fascinated by the media as a child, secretly reading Cosmopolitan. With some friends she achieved early success as a public speaker and was interviewed by Gloria Hunniford and Eamonn Holmes. After working in PR for various companies she set up her own PR business in 2006 and has clients in the food, environment and business sectors.
Then followed a master class in PR as Julie described what communication should mean for any organisation and how it contributes to success.
Describing her job, Julie said that she spends her days listening to clients, writing for the media, briefing photographers, and crisis management. She showed us a case study of the salmon industry and what happened in 2004 when the BBC and newspapers ran damaging stories based on spurious research from an American organisation. Julie's PR turned this round in 6 months by defending the industry.
She also confessed that, since joining our Club, she has become a Car Boot Sale addict
