President's Blog June 2018

So we’ve reached the end of another rotary year and it is now time for changing of the guard but there’s just time for a quick update.

On 4^th June following the postponement of our Club Assembly to the June Business/Handover meeting we decided to take advantage of lighter evenings and took a stroll along the canal towpath from Bradford on Avon to Avoncliff and back, with time for liquid refreshment at the Cross Guns to fortify us for the walk back.  A pleasant evening was enjoyed by all including 3 four legged friends – I believe that Elaine’s dachshunds slept well that night.

 June’s committees meeting on 11^th focussed on forthcoming events in the new rotary year including our Canal-side Cream tea at Semington Dock on 4^th August – watch this space for more info.  We also finalised the catering arrangements for Presidents Night on 23^rd June.

On 18^th June all club members were invited to a Pimms & Puddings thank you Night at President Andrew’s house where they were treated to a smorgasbord of largely homemade desserts including Chocolate Mousse and a Mojito Cheesecake all washed down with jugs of Pimms– there wasn’t an awful lot left so hopefully they enjoyed them.

On 23^rd June we had our annual President’s Night – this year we did something different and took a midsummer’s cruise along the Kennet & Avon Canal, taking in Widbrook, Bradford on Avon Lock and Avoncliff Aqueduct, on the Barbara McLellan.  The weather was perfect with plenty of blue skies and sunshine.  The club committee did a great job with the catering which contributed to a very pleasant and enjoyable evening which was rounded off by a last drink at the pub when we got back.

Our Club Assembly/Handover meeting took place on 25^th and we were pleased to welcome ADG Guy Parkinson along with Roger Gooden and Mike Savage (of the former Warminster rotary club) who are hoping to become associate members.  After annual reports and speeches President Andrew handed over the presidency to President Elect Andy who in turn presented President Elect Ian, Secretary Ann and Treasurer Liz with their jewels of office.

And so the good ship Trowbridge Wessex Mead sails on into another year of fundraising, socialising and serving the community with a new captain at the helm and maybe venturing into uncharted waters.
