President's Blog February & March 2018

Apologies for the lateness of this latest blog, the time just seems to have flown by.  So what’s been going on?

Our first Members Evening on 5^th February was an out of hours visit to the She Coffee shop where we had an informative talk by Steve the owner, they sell an amazing range of different coffee from places such as Guatemala and Brazil among other places.  In addition to being a coffee shop they also have a separate coffee roasting business and if you are a regular customer you can have your coffee roasted to your own specific requirements and kept in a special jar.  Before buying any coffee from suppliers Steve always has a sample to test and only buys top quality beans for roasting.  A very interesting and enjoyable evening rounded off by a coffee of our choosing and some delicious cake.

February committee night was largely more planning for the pub quiz and big breakfast which were looming rapidly.

Unfortunately our second Members Evening was rather quiet as the guest speaker from the Police was called away at short notice so instead we had a fellowship evening catching up with what everyone had been up to.

February was the rounded off by our business meeting.  In addition to “official” rotary business many of us had a great time celebrating David’s 50^th birthday at his Bavarian Oompah night party.

March’s first Members Evening was a fun bingo night, with chocolate prizes and Laura learnt a lot about how bingo works.  It also served to give food for thought on whether we might run a bingo evening as a fund raiser in the future.

March’s committee night was largely last minute plans for the quiz night on 19^th March but we also had a good discussion about President’s Night (in June) and opted to do our own catering rather than hiring a caterer.

Unfortunately due to the snowy weather we had to postpone our planned quiz so had a night off on 19^th instead.

President Andrew attended the District Forum on Saturday 24^th where speakers were largely around the theme of membership and included the president of the newest club in the district talking about how they run their club and attract members.  It was also confirmed that DG Stewart will continue for a second year following the sad death of DG Elect Roger.

The afore mentioned DG Stewart attended our business meeting on 26^th and gave us an insight into his life through rotary and how he and the DG for 2019/20 are planning to work together to fill the void left by the incoming DG’s untimely death.  Lots more still to come in April, May, June and beyond so keep watching for updates.
