President's Blog January 2018

After a couple of weeks break for Christmas and New Year we resumed our meetings on Monday 8^th January with the first Members Evening of the year where President Andrew gave us an insight into New Year traditions from around the world – these “traditions” included throwing furniture out of windows; taking your suitcase for a walk on New Year’s Eve if you want to go travelling, and many myths about the colour of underwear you need to wear!!

January’s committees on 15^th largely involved putting flesh on the bare bones of forthcoming events and further rescheduling of the Big Breakfast and Quiz which have effectively swapped places as the Big Breakfast is now in April (8^th) and the quiz in March (18^th).  Further ahead is President’s Night in June and our 2^nd annual Canal-side Cream Tea on 4^th August.

On Tuesday January 16^th President Andrew attended the charter evening for the new Frome Town Rotary Club which had the honour of being the first club chartered in Great Britain in 2018.  We wish them well with their endeavours.

On Wednesday 17^th the twinning sub-committee met at Liz’s house to start planning for the visit of our twin club Rodez-Espallion: they are with us 19^th – 22^nd May and we hope to give them an enjoyable visit.

Monday 22^nd was our second Members Evening of the month and Andy Barlow demonstrated his financial advisor skills by giving us an informative talk on pensions and how best to invest for the future – plenty of food for thought.

January was rounded off with our Business Meeting on 29^th and the prospect of lots more to come in the coming months.
