Club Blog Dec 2015 & Jan 2016

December is a short month in TWM rotary terms as we only meet for 3 Mondays. Committees took place on 7th, followed by collecting with the Lions Club on the 14th December. This year we were lucky & had a dry night to walk around the Silver St Lane area. The Lions have a new and improved float, but we are happy to report Santa still walks about handing out sweets to the good children of Trowbridge!

For our Christmas meal celebrations we met at the Dandy Lion, Bradford on Avon on Monday 21st December. A very enjoyable evening was had by all with good food, good service, and some fun Secret Santa's.

There is no official activity arranged by TWM for New Year's Eve but a group of us usually get together to welcome in the New Year and this year Caroline invited members to join her at home for a 6-course tasting menu, all the food being home-made & following the Paleo diet - who needs dairy when you can use coconut milk?!

Trev & Bryony attended the Alzheimer West Wilts Cafe meeting in both December & January, assisting with refreshments on the second Tuesday of the month. For December there was sing-a-long carols, and January had a memory aid speaker.

Our somewhat delayed Young Chef Club Final competition took place on 7th January 2016, at the Wiltshire College Trowbridge. Our four finalists became three as a nasty winter cold laid Emily Taylor from St Augustine's Catholic College low, leaving her fellow student Elizabeth Gray to take on the challenge from Frazer Caroll & Chris Hargreaves, both from Lavington School. Elizabeth met the challenge successfully and will now take part in the District Final due to take place in Weymouth on 6th February.

Having been knocked out of the District Skittles Cup back in October, the 'Best of the Losers' challenge has started with TWM facing Calne Rotary Club on 11th January. Much to our surprise we managed a comprehensive win beating Calne by over 30 pins, a great start to the challenge.

Our member organised evening was bingo at the Lamb and we had plenty of laughs at the bingo lingo, nicknames for every number called. A particular favourite was "duck & a crutch, number 27"! Food for thought, this could be something we investigate for a future charity event.
