Club Blog September 2015

The first Saturday in September was a busy one as members attended both District 1200 Forum and the Country Carnival Fayre. The District Forum is held four times a year and is a good opportunity to meet with other Rotarians within our district and find out what other clubs are doing along with up to date briefings from the District Governor and Officers. Our 'Wine or Air' stall in Trowbridge Park this year was complimented with a kiddies tombola.

On the 7th September we enjoyed a very interesting presentation by Geoff Holt and Ted Sweet representing Trowbridge Talking News. A small team of people take turns each week to read & record articles from the Wiltshire Times which is then distributed free of charge to the visually impaired. Currently they have 60-70 clients but have the capacity to go up to 100 .

In preparation for Rotary Young Chef Competition Club Final, St Augustine's Catholic College held their school cook-off mid-September to select their two finalists to compete against Lavington School. TWM event organiser Caroline was asked to be a judge, and thoroughly enjoyed the morning, meeting the students & sampling nine two course meals!

A full house on Monday 21st September, our ever popular Carnival Quiz with Fish & Chip Supper took place once again at the Polish Club. Some familiar faces in the winning teams, thank you to everyone who supported the event.

A real community month, Caroline attended the Trowbridge in Bloom Awards Evening to represent TWM and to present some awards, having judged the Churches and Community Pride categories in the summer along with the Wiltshire College Arts Exhibition. It is great to see how much of our community is involved with TiB projects which encompass all ages, types of gardening, art, short stories and public speaking.
