Club Blog November 2014

November started with fireworks, lots of fireworks. Chippenham Rotary held their annual event on Saturday 1st November at Monkton Park and TWM were there to assist with marshalling and gate duties at St Mary Street entry. A hot supper at the Rotary Hall at the end of the evening was welcomed and enjoyed by all the helpers.

On the 5th November Trowbridge Fireworks took place at North Bradley, organised by Bradford on Avon Rotary. A cold but dry evening we were out in force to assist with entry and parking. Thankfully although the ground was quite soft, no cars got stuck this year and we were able to make a smart getaway  to enjoy a yummy slow cooker stew supper at David's house.

With all the large firework displays we were attending, we decided to forgo our annual firework club get together scheduled for 3rd November, opting instead to stay in the warm for a skittles social at the Lamb. We are certainly making good use of their alley as on the 17th November we held a 'new members social evening' with informal skittles, hoping some new people would come along to meet us and find out a little more about our club. It was a case of quality not quantity, but we are keeping our fingers crossed that we may have a new member joining us shortly!

The 22nd November found members and penguins with collecting buckets in Castle Mall Trowbridge, to collect donations for our winter appeal. All money raised on this day will be used to assist those in need in Trowbridge. Thank you to those who donated, and hopefully our penguins raised a smile as you passed.

All our skittles practice paid dividends when we met with Midsomer Norton Rotarians at the Fleur de Lys at Norton St Philip at the end of the month as part of our Rotary District Skittles tournament After leading for 3 legs it was all even at the end of 6, but Alan held his nerve in a sudden death play-off and won us the match! The celebratory sausage & mash supper was then much enjoyed by both teams.
