Club Blog August 2014

August is another short month in rotary terms for Trowbridge Wessex Mead as we lose a meeting night due to the August Bank Holiday. However we managed to fit in our usual committee meeting and we were joined by District Governor Judy Barnard-Jones at  our Business Meeting.

Judy is spending the first three months of office visiting all the clubs in District 1200 to meet everyone and find out more about club plans for this Rotary year. We were club visit 31 and we certainly seemed to have a lot to tell her, so watch this space!

Monday 11th August meeting was arranged by Andrew. We had an enlightening evening learning about World War 1 through a simple quiz, followed by members sharing tales of family members lost in the war. Some members then took part in "Lights Out" when they got home.

The annual  Carnival Soap Box Derby took place on 17th August, and we provided some marshalling support. It started out as a very wet  Sunday morning, but 14 teams braved the weather and thankfully it brightened up as the event progressed.  More Carnival events will be taking place in September - we will once again run our popular 'wine or air' stall at the County Fayre in Trowbridge Park, and on Monday 22nd September we will be holding our Carnival Quiz Night at the Polish Club.
