President's Blog January 2014

Firstly a happy New year to everyone, I hope that the coming year will fulfil all of your expectations.

January started with my attendance at the Trowbridge Rugby Club official opening of the new ground and clubhouse on 4^thJanuary, 2014. This was attended by many dignitaries from around Trowbridge as well as people from the Rugby fraternity. It was a well organised event although sadly the weather prevented the afternoon game taking place.

On Monday  6^thJanuary, a follow up of our club visioning project was held at the Lamb in Trowbridge. Several things were discussed which will help to enhance the club and encourage growth in the community projects run by the club.

The 13^th January saw our first committee meeting of the year where we discussed and planned our projects for the coming months. The first being our Big Breakfast which takes place on the 23^rdFebruary. Sounds like an easy job but a lot of hard work on preparation is required by the organising committee members.

The 20^th January was a  member organised night and Vicky invited Julie and Michael Davies along to give us a presentation on the “Elizabeth-Ann Charity". The charity was started in memory of their daughter, Elizabeth-Ann, who died in 1990 aged 16, and provides support for the villagers of Burlavaripalem, a small village in Andhra Pradesh, South India. Projects have included a well for clean water and providing toilets for the village residents. It was a very enlightening and heart warming presentation as most of the work was done by the Davies  and shows how a little money can go a long way.

Our usual business meeting took place on the 27^thJanuary where we reviewed  past events and discussed finances over a tasty meal at the Lamb.
