President's Blog December 2013

Although December had 5 Monday evenings, we only held meetings on the first 3 to allow members to spend time with their families and friends over the festive period. President Alan was out of action for the month due to an operation on his foot.

The first Monday was committee night where we made plans for our future events and activities. Our next event will take place on Sunday 23rd February, our annual Big Breakfast raising funds to eradicate polio worldwide. Please book in and bring your friends for a scrummy full English Breakfast.

On the second Monday we joined forces with the Trowbridge Lions to assist them with their Santa Float along the Seymour Road area. The generous residents donated a total of £165.64 and Lion President Graeme says "The money raised over Christmas will go towards the events which Lions fund throughout the year which  has already started with 120 children attending the Panto at the ARC recently. Other events for children will be a coach to Paultons Park in May, and days out for single parent families. The money raised over Christmas will support the disadvantage people in Trowbridge."

Members of Trowbridge Wessex Mead Rotary also helped with the Lion Supermarket collections at Tesco & Sainsbury during the lead up to Christmas. This confused a few acquaintances, who thought we had jumped ship!

On the third Monday of December we met at the Fat Fowl, BoA, for a delicious Christmas meal. Secret Santa had been busy once more under the theme of "be inventive with a fiver".

Although it was not an official Rotary gathering, Past President Caroline once again invited those who had not already made plans to join her & Ian to welcome in the New Year. A party of nine enjoyed home cooked food, drink, conversation & games before raising a glass of champagne at midnight.
