September started with a member’s night: the re-recording by Bath Drama of the popular BBC radio comedy "Round the Horne" at Bradford on Avon's fringe festival was billed as 'fresh & funny'. Our club members really enjoyed the performance that ran for about half an hour and I certainly could have listened to more if it had been available. Well done Bryony on sourcing an excellent evening.

The Carnival Country Fayre took place at Trowbridge Park on Saturday 7th September and we were there once again with our 'Wine or Air' stall, raising funds for Rotary charities. The stall proved to be popular with some people even with the distraction of the pole dancing performances on the next pitch!

Every year we hold a Quiz Night at the Polish Club to raise funds for the Carnival charities. This year the rounds ranged from cocktails to carnivals with the Worley Thinkers, a team from Trowbridge Museum, scooping the top scores for both the overall quiz and the 'name the flag' interval round. A fun evening was completed with a delicious fish & chip supper from the Manor Road fish & chip shop.

One of the joys of being Club President is to be invited to represent Trowbridge Wessex Mead Rotary at local and community events. On Tuesday 24th September I attended the Trowbridge in Bloom Presentation evening at the Civic Centre where I had the privilege of presenting an award. The evening was very enlightening, awards were given for achievements by individuals and groups for work on gardens and public spaces in Trowbridge. One highlight of the evening was a performance from a young pianist who has the talent to go far. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and congratulate the organisers for a successful well attended event.

The next day I attended a lunch in Devizes hosted by Carers Support Wiltshire, a charity close to my heart. The lunch was attended by people and dignitaries from different organisations who have helped before or could possibly help in future. (TWM made a donation to this worthwhile charity back in June.)

In the spirit of supporting our neighbouring Rotary Clubs, we sent two teams to take part in a quiz hosted by The Rotary Club of Westbury. It was a fun evening to raise funds for local charities and somehow, despite not knowing many of the answers, we managed to avoid coming last!

September ended with a member's evening, playing skittles at the Lamb. David & Chris surpassed themselves by both scoring above a 9 in one round. Perhaps a few more practice sessions are needed if we are hoping to make headway in the Rotary District Skittles League(!), but a good venue and team spirit made this a very enjoyable evening.
