April brought us new friends from Turkey when some Trowbridge Wessex Mead Rotary members played host to a visiting Group Study Exchange team for a couple of nights:

The Group Study Exchange program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women in their initial years of professional life. This educational  program is designed to develop professional and leadership skills among young adults so that they can address the needs of their communities and an increasingly global workplace. GSE offers Rotarians the opportunity to participate in sending, receiving, and sharing educational experiences of study teams that will enhance Rotary’s worldwide mission.

We had great fun getting to know the four Turkish team members and discussing the differences between Turkish & British Rotary Clubs with the team leader. We have been able to follow their subsequent journey around our district through facebook postings and will meet up once more at the beginning of May to say farewell.

Continuing the international theme through April, our annual quiz night with fish & chip supper was once again held at the Polish Club. With the proceeds from a very enjoyable evening, topped up by our club donation, we have been able to purchase 3 water survival boxes from World Water Works http://www.worldwaterworks.org  (World Water Works is dedicated to helping people escape the stranglehold of disease and poverty caused by disasters which destroy their homes and possessions and leave them without safe water and sanitation.)

Our International theme will continue through May when we will be hosting 12 visitors from the Rotary Club of Rodez-Espalion. Some warm dry weather would be much appreciated!
