Lighthouse Challenge

Checking-in for the Lighthouse Challenge

Location

The arrival point is by the kiosk close to St. Bedes School, Duke’s Drive, Eastbourne at the foot of the Downs. If you are using a GPS for navigation, the nearest post code is BN20 7XL. Parking is limited so do please allow time to find parking spaces a short walk away.

When you arrive, you will see banners signposting the event, and a lane immediately in front of the kiosk. Just proceed straight up the lane for approximately half a mile and you will eventually see the check-in tables.

Checking-in

Please see timings below – these are important because, after the closing time for check-in, we cannot allow anyone else to register/proceed as safety will be compromised due either to failing light or the risk of being cut off by the tide.

There will be tables to handle the checking-in process, and we ask you please not to by-pass check-in as it is important, for safety reasons, that we have an accurate list of all those participating.

Finishing

When you finish the walk, please return to the check-in area where you will be able to collect a certificate to show that you have completed the Lighthouse Challenge.

Timings - all BST

Check-in desks open 16:45

Check-in closes 18:00 - No one permitted to check-in after this time.

Low water         18:48

Sunset         21:15

Walkers will be asked to commence leaving the lighthouse at 19.30 to ensure safe return before the light fades..

Guidance on Timings

As shown, there is a gap of 75 mins for check-in to allow time for check-in (and also for those registering on the day if places are still available).  Whilst you will be able to start out as soon as you have registered, please remember that, if you set off quickly, you could reach the lighthouse within approximately 60 minutes which could be too early if you want to walk round it. The earliest you are likely to be able to walk around the Lighthouse will be approximately 18:20. Therefore, if you want to start out early, please do take your time, admire the scenery, and appreciate that you may need to wait a short time for the water to recede sufficiently.
