RAD has an association with the International Business School of Robert Gordons University in Aberdeen. Our most recent interaction with the School and its students was an International Evening held at the Deeside Golf Club, the RAD regular meeting place. Sixteen students together with one of their course tutors, were hosted at DGC. After a meal, each student in turn was asked to give their name and country of origin followed by the answer to a question posed by the RAD International Group convenor.
With plenty of good humour, common themes they mentioned were:
o how welcome they had been made in Aberdeen
o the good reputation of RGU as a factor in their choice of where to study
o the Aberdeen climate
o what they missed most about being at home (mostly their ‘usual foods’ and their
family, except for one gentleman who missed his motorbike even more)
o a desire to see much more of Scotland, not yet having been outside Aberdeen
o several of them have not yet tried any ‘Scottish’ food.
RAD has sponsored a number of overseas projects usually by way of a Rotary District Grant which doubles the value of locally generated funds by RAD. The latest and ongoing project is to install toilets in a school in Kenya. Further details and pictures willl be posted later.
