The Rotary Club of Aberdeen Deeside RCAD have been supporting Kids Out KO since our inception as a club. Apart from providing a lot of volunteers, we also have serving members on the KO management committee as Secretary & Treasurer and trustees of the KidsOut Aberdeen Charity.
The principle activity is to provide a fun day out for children who suffer from mental and/or physical disabilities and/or learning difficulties. We have been in operation since 1994 providing this annual event for children of primary school age.
The 2015 event was held on 10th June at Craibstone, Aberdeen and was attended by 582 children from 35 schools in and around Aberdeen, approximately 280 school staff, 165 Rotarians and around 90 other helpers (includes pupils from Westhill School, Aberdeen College and volunteers from RBS, Clydesdale Bank). It was a successful day following a tried and tested format converting a greenfield site to a fun area and then decommissioning and returning the site to green field status afterwards.
The whole event was blessed by good weather. We arranged the transport for the children to and from their schools together with lunch and snacks on the day. The entertainment provided for the children this year included a fantastic selection of bouncy castles, face painting, small farm animals, owls, pony and trap, magicians, puppet show, rope bridge, satrosphere events, steam train, football, pony rides, police car, fire engine and a disco.
Feedback from the schools was very positive and most importantly of all, the children had a fantastic time.
The 2016 KO event will take place on Wed 8th June.
