Rotary Golf Day 2021 Press Release
In Dec 2019 the Rotary Club of Chichester Harbour started to plan its first ever Charity Golf Day.
The beneficiaries of the day would be Chestnut Tree House Hospice and the funds raised to be in memory of Sam Brown who worked at Chestnut for over 10 years before his untimely death in Sept 2018 at the all-too- young age of 31.
The objective was set to raise sufficient funds to Pay for a Day (currently £6750) in Sam’s name at the Hospice.
By Feb 2020 the Club had secured the local business of Turner’s Pies as the principal supporter for the day and the date of 11thJune had been set for the event to be held at the Cathedral Course Chichester Golf Course.
To complement this, 18 individual hole sponsors – Chadney Bulgin ,Hendy, Henry Adams, Gallaghers, Falcon Fabrics, SMR , Platinum Accounting, Chichester Haulage, Spur Inn, Beaver Tool Hire, Jennings&Co, Indigo, Rathbones, Indigo, Ford Airfield Market, Moore South, Reilly Construction, Oldham Seals, Southern Metals and KJB Contractors – were in place along with 18 teams.
What could possibly go wrong!
So After 2 COVID postponements it was 3rd time lucky and the event took place on 9th Sept 2021
And it was well worth the wait!!
The teams keenly contested the Sam Brown Trophy and the Turner’s Pie Yellow Ball competition with prizes also up for grabs re the nearest the Pin and Longest Drive.
The eventual winners of both of the Trophies were Jonah’s Boys namely Paul Jones (7) Olly Longlands (1) Tony Humberstone (7) Glenn Lickman( 11) they pipped Turner’s Pies by just 1 point in the main event.
The Longest Drive was won by Paul Reynolds from the Moore South Team and the Nearest the Pin was won by Ruben French from Turner’s Pie.
But the day was really all about raising funds for Chestnut Tree House and what a good job all those involved in the day did – the sponsors – the golfers and those people that purchased raffle tickets in the run up to the day.
They smashed the original objective of £6750 by raising a massive £10,620 !!!
Glyn Brown of Rotary Club of Chichester Harbour thanked everyone who contributed to this amount and who supported the day so fantastically well.
Phillip Turner of Turner’s Pie said “As a local family business they were proud to be associated with helping local charities” and he thanked the Rotary Club for putting together such a great day”
