HELPING REFUGEES IN OUR COMMUNITY
Whilst the Rotary Club of Chichester Harbour is well known for the work we do helping local families in need and those who are fleeing domestic violence, we are possibly less known for the work we do to help those escaping from war torn countries, political unrest or countries where the climate has become more and more inhospitable.
We work very closely with the Sanctuary in Chichester who help refugees to find a pathway to living independently in a new country by giving support such as English language tuition as well as basic familiarisation of how we do things in this country so they can finally integrate, work and contribute to the local community.
These often-traumatised families arrive with very little, having had to escape their country at great speed. This is where we come in. In such cases, the Sanctuary will refer cases to us where basic items of clothing, sanitary items, bedding, cooking equipment and utensils, furniture, baby equipment, white goods, toys and much more are required. Last year we ensured that every child in the Park Hotel (now a refugee centre) had a Christmas gift.
