Members and friends helping at 2025 Kiltwalk
Emma Devers, from STV Children’s Appeal, talked about its fund-raising work. Emma has worked in fund-raising for over 12 years and has been with STV for the last 3-plus years. She said 2026 will mark the 15th anniversary of the STV Appeal and since 2011 has raised around £40 million for various charities and groups throughout Scotland. Last year nearly £2.5 million was raised. She said that 1:5 children in the country were affected by poverty and through the power of television their stories could be told.
The STV Appeal works with hundreds of charities and is involved in four highly successful Kiltwalks in Dundee, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The Dundee Kiltwalk this year is on August 16th and participants can also don the Appeal’s own tartan. Another initiative is the Appeal’s Big Scottish Breakfast in September which aims to support breakfast clubs in schools. Cereal producers Kelloggs back the event with matched funding. Emma said the STV Appeal now has a half-hour special TV show in November which highlights the some of the success stories of the community groups that receive funding.
Rotarian Jim Allison thanked Emma for coming from Glasgow to let members know about the fantastic achievements of the STV Appeal.
