Lynn Brand, a volunteer with Marie Curie, talked about the charity which provides end of life care and has hospices in Scotland and 180 shops in the UK.
It provides palliative care for any terminal illness including cancer, late stage dementia and other conditions.
The 75-year-old charity additionally offers respite care and a companion service and also carries out research and campaigns for better terminal care.
In the community, 51% of its funding comes from charitable donations with 49% coming from NHS budgets.
