There's some fairly consistent evidence that, among other things, helping others makes us happier. It would appear however, that much depends on how we help.The talk follows the work of a social psychologist who has shown that one important factor will help determine our impact and the amount of satisfaction we derive from our support. What are the implications, if any, of her findings for us?
Club member Mike Dow, a retired clinical psychologist, highlighted some research into the topic and said that having a good friendship or relationship was one of the main factors in being happy.
He also said that research showed that having plenty money did not necessarily bring happiness. How charitable donations were made and the degree of involvement in a project also influenced a person’s satisfaction with their actions.
Mike was introduced by President Gordon Moir and Forbes Lockhart proposed a vote of thanks for a most thought-provoking talk.
