Retired optometrist Gavin Galloway gave an illustrated talk about his career.
Gavin, who recently joined the club, studied at Glasgow College of Technology and graduated in 1979. Over the next 40 years while living and practicing mostly in Fife he gained several more professional qualifications.
He said that there had been great changes in technology with significant improvements in equipment.
There had also been massive changes in working practices with optometrists taking on roles once done by GPs and hospital ophthalmologists. Many more patients with eye problems are now treated in the community with optometrists diagnosing, prescribing and treating many conditions.
Gavin was introduced by President Gordon Moir and John Fernie proposed thanks for a fascinating and most informative talk.
