Wartime Memories - Angus Peters

Tue, Nov 12th 2024 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Reception - Hugh Elliott; Payment - Carol Morris

Angus Peters entertained fellow Kilrymont Rotarians with some very early childhood memories of wartime Aberdeen.

Angus still remembers the awful smell of his children’s rubber gas mask and of playing in the Anderson bomb shelters. He mentioned the dried milk and dried eggs available during Second World War and listed several other staple foods that were rationed.

He said the Granite city suffered many air raids and recalled returning to his home to find a bedroom window shattered.

Hugh Elliott proposed a vote of thanks but not before some other members told of their wartime recollections.
