Member James Yule delivered an amusing talk entitled “Spilling the Beans”-a look at idioms. James provided a number of examples—bite the bullet, open up a can of worms, cost an arm and a leg—explaining their meaning and where the terms came from. James said many of the non-literal sayings derived from navy origins such as sling your hook, toe the line and no room to swing a cat. Jim Douglas proposed a vote of thanks for an entertaining look at the world of words.
