Ronald Sandford gave a talkon the Old Tom Morris statue which is due to be unveiled in St Andrews early next month.
Ronald said the idea of a memorial to Old Tom in his home town came to him nine years ago while playing golf at Rosapenna, Ireland, where there is already a statue to Old Tom.
Ronald outlined the numerous obstacles he encountered before his perseverance was rewarded when planning approval was eventually approved earlier this year.
He told of the support from various golf clubs and organisations in the town and the financial support for the £100,000 statue from the Pilgrim Trust, the R&A, the Kinburn Trust and many individuals.
The statue, by Fife artist David Annand, is to be situated on Bow Butts opposite the former Scores Hotel where Old Tom will gaze down the 18th fairway of the Old Course.
President-elect David Gray introduced Ronald and Neil McNair proposed thanks for a most interesting talk.
