Reception - Gordon Moir, Menu Choice - Kyff Roberts
Jim Douglas gave a humorous account of Belfast football club Glentoran’s victory in the Vienna Cup in 1914. Glentoran embarked on a tour of central Europe in May and June and after a handful of matches played a Vienna Select XI for the cup which the the Irish cup winners won 5-0. The cup was played for only once due to the outbreak of the First World War. Jim’s talk was punctuated with several amusing asides including the mystery disappearance of the Glentoran goalkeeper. Gordon Moir proposed thanks to the speaker.
