Speaker: Iain Fraser - Ledlanet Nights - Reminiscences

Tue, Mar 28th 2023 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Reception: John Fernie
Menu choice: Carol Morris

Iain Fraser recounted  his reminiscences of Ledlanet Nights, a festival of arts which ran from 1962 until 1973 at the Kinross-shire venue.
Kilrymont member Iain said Ledlanet House, a few miles west of Milnathort, was the home of John Mackenzie Calder, publisher and arts lover.
With short weekend seasons, Ledlanet hosted various events from classical music and opera to drama, art exhibitions and folk nights.
Iain’s father James was chairman of the festival which was also endorsed by figures including graphic designer John Martin, art guru Richard Demarco and printer and folk singer Alan Watt.
Iain said the quite bohemian nights, held when licensing laws were rather relaxed, attracted audiences of around 100 with annual membership priced at £5.
He had several amusing anecdotes about some of the characters involved behind the scenes.
Iain was introduced by President Irene Walker and John Fernie proposed thanks for a well-researched and entertaining talk.
