Magic Moments in women’s golf was the subject of a talk given by member Brian Gray.

Brian gave an abbreviated version of an address he gave to St Regulus Ladies Golf Club at their annual prize-giving dinner last year.

He recalled that Madras Ladies Golf Club, later to become St Regulus, was formed in 1913, the first of what he said were magic moments.

The following year the Eden course was opened with the first shot performed by the provost’s wife Mrs Hartless. A trophy in her name is now played for between St Regulus and St Rule clubs.

Other notable local moments included ladies playing in the traditional Town match for the first time in 2019.

Brian talked about the Ladies Putting Club at the Himalayas which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2017 with a royal visit from Princess Anne. Former Open champion Tom Watson was another who had been welcomed by putting ladies.

Women’s golf achievements in the amateur Curtis Cup were highlighted and who could not forget the thrilling Solheim Cup win by European professionals over the USA at Gleneagles in 2019.

Brian’s talk on Zoom was sprinkled with beautifully-delivered amusing tall stories which received acclaimed emoji responses.

Iain Fraser proposed the vote of thanks.
