To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Rotary Foundation (Rotary’s own international charity) and Rotary Day, the Rotary Club of Gryffe Valley held a special dinner on 23rd February with the theme “Purple” – purple being the colour of dye used to mark children who have been inoculated against polio in the Rotary Foundation End Polio campaign.
Jason Andrews of The River Inn obliged with an excellent three-course dinner which followed the purple theme! Our speaker was Jim Morton, the Rotary District Convenor for Foundation who gave us a detailed update on the charity and its successes.
Recognition of Local Gardening Groups
The club had invited representatives from each of the voluntary gardening teams in the villages of the GVRC area. These groups have each planted purple crocus bulbs which will act as a local reminder of the Rotary End Polio campaign. President Peter Dickie and International and Foundation convenor Neil McAlister welcomed the 5 representatives and thanked them for the work they do to make our villages more attractive. The photograph below shows President Peter Dickie, John Fergus of Colourful Kilmacolm, Jake Fulton of the Houston Litter-Crew and Bee Happy group, David Foulds of Lochwinnoch Community Gardening group, Margaret Greenlees of Brighter Bridge of Weir, David Ritchie of the Brookfield Gardening Group, and Neil McAllister.
